1.1 Purpose The purpose of this standard is to establish requirements for ready-to-wear near-vision spectacles, commonly called “readers”. They are not designed to be industrial safety eyewear as defined in ANSI Z87.1 -201 0, sports eyewear as defined in ASTM F803, nor prescription eyewear as defined in ANSI Z80.1 -201 0.

3.1 Design reference points: The points at which all optical measurements are made.
3.1.1 Horizontal: The design reference points are specified by the manufacturer and are spaced symmetrically with respect to the vertical symmetry axis of the frame in accordance with ANSI Z80.5, box measuring diagram. If the manufacturer does not designate a horizontal design reference point, the horizontal design reference point is at ½ the A-distance.
3.1.2 Vertical: The design reference points are specified by the manufacturer and are spaced symmetrically with respect to the horizontal symmetry axis of the frame in accordance with ANSI Z80.5, box measuring diagram. If the manufacturer does not designate a vertical design reference point, the vertical design reference point is at ½ the B-distance.
