ASTM D6880/D6880M-19 covers the fabrication of wood boxes. These wood boxes, when constructed, filled and closed, shall be used for the packing of contents not exceeding 1000 lb [454 kg].
7.10 Boxes for Hazardous Materials Shipments. Regulated commodities shipments may require stronger constructed boxes than those specified herein. Use of these boxes for hazardous materials or regulated commodities shall conform to appropriate US Dept. of Transportation, international modal regulations, and applicable Department of Defense regulations.
8. Shipping Preparation
8.1 Delivery of Boxes. Boxes may be shipped assembled or knocked-down as specified. Instructions for assembly shall be provided with knocked-down boxes. Directions for closure shall be provided with delivery of boxes.
8.2 Packing and Marking. Assembled or knocked-down boxes shall be packed and marked in accordance with Practice D395I. Other special marking requirements may be required in the contract or purchase order.
8.3 Phytosanitation. Phytosanitary treatment and marking must conform to Practice D6253 and ISPM 15.
