3. Zinc-coated steel bolts and nuts
3.1 Material
3.1.1 Bolt material
All bolts shall be made from one of the following materials:
Hot-headed bolts, double-arming bolts, double-end bolts, and washer-head bolts shall be made fromahot-rolled steel that has been produced by the open-hearth, basic-oxygen, or electric-furnace processand that is of a grade and quality suitable to meet the requirements of this standard.
b)Cold-headed carriage bolts, machine bolts and washer-head bolts shall be made from steel cold.heading rod or wire, produced by the open-hearth, basic-oxygen, or electric-furnace process, that isof a grade and quality suitable to meet the requirements of this standard, and shall be reheated ifnecessary to meet the requirements.
Washers welded to square-head machine bolt heads to form washer-head bolts shall conform tocClause 6 of this standard.
3.1.2 Nut material
Nuts for bolts made from steel, in accordance with item a) and item b) in 3.1.1, shall be made from hotrolled steel that has been produced by the open-hearth, basic-oxygen, or electric-furnace process, and that isof a grade and quality suitable to meet the requirements of this standard.
