ANSI NEIS 605-2005 pdf download Installing Underground Nonmetallic Utility Duct
5.2.1 Bulk Storage Loose duct should be stacked parallel. To avoid exces- sive ovality on the bottom row, limit the stacking height to four feet for EB, five feet for DB duct, and 10 feet for RTRC. The bottom row ofduct should be laid on as level a surface as possible. Do not place supports under the duct, since this may cause exces- sive deflection and sagging.
5.2.2 Bends and Sweeps Bends and sweeps can be stored outdoors on flat ground. Consult the manufacturer for other storage procedures.
5.2.3 Fittings, Spacers, and Accessories When stored outdoors, fittings, spacers, and accessories in cartons should be under cover to protect cartons from the elements.
5.2.4 Cleaners, Primers, Cements, and Adhesives Store all cleaners, primers, cements, and adhesives in a cool place except when actually in use at the job site. Do not store in freezing areas as this can cause premature gelation and loss ofthe cements. Some products have a limited shelflife when not stored in hermetically sealed containers. Consult the product manufacturer for specific recommendations on storage conditions and shelflife. In hermetically sealed containers, the normal shelflife ofthese products is approximately one to two years. NOTE—Some products are flammable. Fumes can be harmful ifadequate ventilation is not provided.
5.2.5 Inventories Inventories should be rotated—first in, first out—to minimize possible loss from excessive storage time.
5.3 Handling on the Jobsite
5.3.1 Duct Avoid abusive handling. Use care when handling thermoplastic duct in temperatures below 32°F.
5.3.2 Coils and Reels Use appropriate unloading and handling equipment ofadequate capacity to unload the truck, and for safe handling and operating procedures. Do not roll or push coils and reels offoftrucks. During cold weath- er, use care not to drop the duct, and keep handling equipment and other objects from hitting the duct.
5.3.3 Solvent Products Follow manufacturers’ procedures when handling solvents on job sites.
