The objective of this book was to illustrate in a clear and concise way the basic knowledge of modelling and simulation using Petri nets as a central formalism and its use in SIMIO as a simulation program for solving logistic problems.We think that the combination of both tools is the main contribution to this book.Translating the developed models using Petri nets to SIMIO is made through an equivalence mapping in such a way that the resulting models are more robust,reliable and easy to verify,validate and maintain.
A system,in general,can have many conceptual models associated with it,and
all of them are valid.In this book,the modelling approach is Petri nets.We illustrate the use of Petri nets through the implementation of diverse academic examples;once the reader is familiar with them and how the equivalence in SIMIO has been performed,he will be able to model more complex systems.
