EN 358-2018 pdf download.Personal protective equipment for work positioning and prevention of falls from a height – Belts and lanyards for work positioning or restraint.
Waist belts and lanyards for work positioning and restraint with metallic elements shall be tested in accordance with 5.8. All metallic elements shall not show evidence of corrosion of the base metal which could affect its function. The presence of tarnishing and white scaling is acceptable.
NOTE 1 Care should be taken by the manufacturer not to combine different metals in such a way that there could be adverse galvanic reaction.
NOTE 2 Conformity to this requirement does not imply suitability for use in a marine environment.
4.7 Marking and information supplied by the manufacturer
4.7.1 Marking of waist belts and lanyards for work positioning or restraint shall be in accordance with Clause 6.
4.7.2 Information shall be supplied with waist belts and lanyards for work positioning or restraint in accordance with Clause 7.
5 Test methods
5.1 Examination of design and construction for waist belts
5.1.1 One unused waist belt shall be used br these examinations.
5.1.2 Check the waist belt by reference to appropriate documentation and by normal or corrected vision and/or tactile examination and/or by measuring.
5.1.3 Check that the work positioning belt is fitted with a back support and measure the dimensions to the nearest millimetre.
5.1.4 Measure the minimum width of the restraint belt to the nearest millimetre.
5.2 Examination of design and construction for fastening and adjustment elements
5.2.1 One unused waist belt shall be used for these examinations.
5.2.2 Check the fastening elements by visual and/or tactile examination.
5.2.3 Check by visual and/or tactile examination that the fastening elements cannot unintentionally open.
5.2.4 Push one button of the fastening element, and check that it goes back in its original locking position. Repeat for the second button.
If the lanyard has more than two terminations, measure the length of each combination of terminations allowed by manufacturer.
5.4 Examination of design and construction for length adjustment devices
Check the length adjustment device by visual and tactile examination,
5.5 Examination of materials
Check the waist belt/lanyard by reference to appropriate documentation and by normal or corrected vision and/or tactile examination.
5.6 Static strength and slippage
5.6.1 Test apparatus
The apparatus for the testing of waist belts and lanyards shall meet the requirements of EN 364:1992, 4.1 and 4.3. The diameter of the test cylinder specified In EN 364:1992, 4.3 may be reduced to a minimum of 250 mm to avoid contact between the cylinder and the waist belt fastening element and adjustment element.
5.6.2 Waist belt
Install the waist belt and test cylinder in the test apparatus as specified in 5.6.1 as shown in Figure 3. Ensure that the waist belt fastening element and adjustment element do not touch the test cylinder and
the angle of the belt arrangement lies in the range of 50° to 60°. Apply a load of (1 °‘) kN between the test cylinder and the attachment element of the waist belt. Mark the position of each adjustment element in such a way that any slippage and movement can be measured. After releasing, this load shall be applied four times, each time for (1 01) mm with a release period of less than 30 s in between.
After releasing the 1 kN load for the fifth time, apply a load of (505) kN for a period of (3025) mm. Measure and record any movement or slippage of the webbing through the waist belt adjustment elements.
Release the load and apply a load of (is 1) kN between the test cylinder and the attachment element of the waist belt. Maintain the load for (3025) mm and observe whether the waist belt releases the cylinder.
Repeat the test for each attachment configuration as specified by the manufacturer. A new waist belt may be used for each test if necessary.EN 358-2018 pdf download.
