EN 17101-2017 pdf download.Thermal insulation products for buildings – PU adhesive foam for External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems.
5.7 Cohesion strength (Pull-off) test
5.7.1 Test apparatus and materials
5.7.1.1 Canister(s), with PU adhesive foam for evaluation
5.7.1.2 A smooth concrete slab with a thickness of at least 40 mm which has been stored at test conditions of (23 ± 2) °C, (50 ± 5) % r.h. for at least 7 days. The concrete shall have a water/cement ratio 0.45 to 0,48; tensile strength of at least 1,5 N/mm2 and a maximum moisture content of 3 % of the total mass prior to the test.
5.7.1.3 A minimum five EPS or XPS specimen boards with nominal dimensions 50 mm x 50 mm, a thickness of at least 30 mm and a minimum tensile strength of TR15O. All specimen boards shall be flat with dry and clean surfaces and have been stored at test conditions of (23 ± 2) °C, (50 ± 5) % r.h. for at least 24 h.
NOTE EPS or XPS specimen boards with maximum dimensions of 120 mm x 200 mm and minimum thickness of 30 mm can also be used.
The test specimens shall be cut after curing.
5.7.1.4 Spacers (to set the thickness of the cured PU adhesive foam), made of non-sticking material. are used to ensure a consIstent (8 ± 0.5) mm gap between the top surface of the EPS/XPS boards and the bottom surface of the concrete slab.
5.7.1.5 Weights or clamps, if substrate material is not heavy enough to ensure stability of the test sample.
5.7.1.6 Sharp and clean cutting knife, e.g. scalpel or craft knife with thin blade.
5.7.1.7 “Eye” bolts/anchors fixed or welded to a flat metal plate for connecting the EPS/XPS specimen boards to a tensile testing machine.
5.7.1.8 Vernier calliper, with an accuracy of≤ 0,1 mm for measuring of sample surface area.
5.7.2 Tensile testing machine
a) The specimen preparation shall be performed at (23 ± 2) °C, (50 ± 5) % r.h,
b) The PU adhesive foam shall be dispensed without interruption onto the top surface of the EPS/XPS specimen boards at a rate of (100 to 200) mm/s to form strings with a diameter of (10 to 30) mm, without leaving space between adjacent strings. The nozzle should be at a distance of (10 ± 5) mm above the substrate to avoid touching the dispensed foam. The string pattern should conform to either:
1) multiple longitudinal strings (see Figure 11, right hand side option); or
2) in a continuous serpentine pattern (see Figure 11, left hand side option);
c) Set the spacers as shown in either Figure 12 or 13 to ensure a gap of (8 ± 0,5) mm between the top surface of the EPS/XPS specimen boards and the bottom surface of the concrete slab will be achieved when the two are assembled.
d) After (180 ± 10) s, press the concrete slab onto the PU foam adhesive on the top surface to the EPS/XPS specimen boards.
The EPS/XPS specimen boards shall be separated sufficiently to allow the foam to freely expand laterally to the sides.
e) If necessary, clamp the assembly together or apply weights to the top surface of the concrete slab to ensure its bottom surface remains in contact with the spacers see Figure 14).
f) The PU adhesive foam shall be allowed to cure and the specimen assembly conditioned for at least 24 h at preparation conditions (normal climate according to EN ISO 139).
g) After curing/conditioning. ‘eye1 anchor plates are affixed to the bottom face of each EPS/XPS specimen block by using a suitable adhesive (see Figure 15).
The failure modes observed shall be given with an accuracy of 10 % for each single measurement. 5.8 Shear strength
5.8.1 Test apparatus and materials
5.8.1.1 Canister(s), with PU adhesive foam for evaluation.
5.8.1.2 Six rectangular pieces of chipboard, each conforming to EN 312: P3 or P5; with dimensions of 140 mm x 100 mm and a minimum thickness of 10 mm.
5.8.1.3 Six spacers to set the cured thickness of the test foam; with the dimensions of
20 mm x 100 mm and thickness of (8 ± 0,5) mm, fixed on each end of the test sample on one chipboard.
The spacers shall be made from a material which will not adhere to the PU adhesive foam being
evaluated.
5.8.1.4 Screw clamps or weights.
5.8.1.5 Sharp and clean cutting knife, e.g. scalpel or craft knife with thin blade.
5.8.1.6 Controlled climate chamber.
5.8.1.7 Tensile testing machine.
5.8.2 Conditioning
The test canister, chiphoards and spacers shall be conditioned at (23 ± 2) °C, (50 ± 5) r,h. [or at least 24 h prior to the application of the PU adhesive foam.
5.8.3 Preparation of the three test specimen
a) Locate the spacers to each of the chipboards.EN 17101-2017 pdf download.
