AIA/NAS 942-2013 pdf download STRAIN GAGES, BONDED RESISTANCE
SCOPE
Purpose
The purpose of this document is to provide a standard for specifying bonded resistance strain gages.
In accomplishing the purpose of this document, it is necessary to:
(a)Establish standard nomenclature for describing bonded resistance strain gages in this specification.
(b)Prescribe the minimum amount and kind of qualification and quality control tests to be performed by straingage manufacturers, and to standardize the manner in which the data are furnished.
(c)Define the minimum capabilities of the test equipment to be used to perform the qualification and qualitycontrol tests.
Set forth the methods to be used to perform the qualifications and quality control tests(d)
(e)Establish criteria for classification of strain gages with respect to performance.
0Classify strain gages with respect to performance.
Intended Use
The specifications in this document provide a means for comparing and selecting strain gages on a preliminarybasis. This document will require manufacturers to furnish that minimum information which the user or purchaserneeds to make a selection for a particular application. This document is not intended to provide information to beused for the calibration of a specific strain gage installation, except in the cases of gage factor, resistance, and thethermal output coefficient. This document wil also provide the purchaser and the manufacturer with a standardmeans of specifying strain gage characteristics.
Summary
A summary, with an emphasis on intent, is presented below:
Section 1 presents the purpose, intent and other details that aid in understanding and using this document
Section 2 lists the documents which form a part of this specification.
Section 3 establishes a grading system for strain gage performance characteristics, and specifies the qualityrequirements for each grade.
Section 4 describes the equipment, strain gage attachment methods, and test procedures which must beused in determining the fourteen performance characteristics used to specify strain gages. This section hastwo major divisions – the first major division is concerned with the minimum qualification tests, while thesecond is concerned with quality control tests
Section 5 describes the requirements which pertain to the dissemination of the information obtained in(e)Section 4.
