ASME PTC-18:2002 pdf download HYDRAULIC TURBINES AND PUMP-TURBINES
1.1 Object
This Code defines procedures for field performanceand acceptance testing of hydraulic turbines and pump-turbines operating with water in either the turbine orpump mode.
1.2 Scope
This Code applies to all sizes and types of hydraulicturbines or pump-turbines. It defines methods for ascer-taining performance by measuring flow rate (discharge))head, and power, from which efficiency may be deter-mined. Requirements are included for pretest arrangements, types of instrumentation, methods ofmeasurement, testing procedures, methods of calculation, and contents of test reports. This Code contains mandatory test requirements andvarious methods of measurement. Where multiple meth-ods of measurement and procedures are permitted by the Code, prior written agreement as to the selectedmethods and procedures is required. The code on General Instructions, ASME PTC 1, gov-
erns the philosophy and general approach of ASMEperformance test codes. The test procedures specified herein and the limita-tions placed on measurement methods and instrumenta-tion are capable of providing a total uncertaintycalculated in accordance with the procedures of PTC19.1 and of this Code, of not more than:(a) Power +1.2%
(b) Flow Rate +1.5%
(c) Efficiency +2.0%
Where favorable measurement conditions exist andbest methods can be used, smaller uncertainties shouldresult. Any test with uncertainties greater than the aboveshall not qualify as an ASME Code test. This Code contains recommended procedures forindex testing and describes the purposes for which indextests may be used.
2.1
The code on Definitions and Values,ASME PTC 2and referenced portions of Supplements on Instrumentsand Apparatus, ASME PTC 19 Series, shall be consideredas part of this Code. Their provisions shall apply unlessotherwise specified. Common terms, definitions, sym-bols and units used throughout this Code are listed inthis section.Specialized terms are explained where theyappear. The following definitions apply to this Code:(a) Machine means any type of hydraulic turbine orpump-turbine.
(b) Turbine means a machine operating in the turbinemode.
(c) Pump means a machine operating in the pumpingmode.
(d) Pump-turbine is a machine that is capable ofoperating as a pump and as a turbine.(e) Runner means turbine runner or pump impeller.
