EN 287-1-1992 pdf download.Approval testing of welders for fusion welding Part 1 . Steels.
5 Essential variables for approval testing
r.i benersi
The criteria specifled in this clause shalt he examined In order to identify the ability of tiw welder in these areas. Each criterion s considered to be a signi&ant fattnr in the apprnvJ ttin.g
The welders approval test shall be carrIed out on test pieces and Is Independent of the type of constrncton.
5.2 WeldIng processes
Welding procses are defined in ISO 857 and reference
numbers of welding processes for cymhohc
repnentation are listed iii ISO 4063.
This standard coveni the foUowin wekling prtx’esses:
111 — iuetal-an weldii with covered elecTrode;
114 — flux-tored wire metal-arc welding without gas
shield;
121 — submerged arc welding with wire electrode:
131 — metal-arc inert gas welding (MIG welding);
135 — metal-anD active gas welding (MAG welding);
136 — flux-cored wire metal-arc welding with active
gas stüeld
137 — flux-cored wire metal-arc welding with inert gas
shleld
141 — tungsten men gas arc welding (TIG welding);
15— plasma arc welding;
311 — oxy-acet3lene welding;
other fusion welding processes by agreemenr
53 Joint types (butt and fillet welds)
Test pkces shall be produced for butt weld (BW) and
fillet weld (FW) ifl plates (P) orpipe) (T) for

6 Range of approval for the welder
6.1 General
As a general rule, the test piece approves the welder not only for the condrnons used In the test, but also for all joints which axe considered easier to weld. The range of approval for each type of test is gwen in the relevant subclauses and tabli. In ther tahIec the TdIL)C Uf 4pfl)V’dl IS UldIUtWd ut 11w iiw horizvutai line.

a) succeful completion of an approval r simulaling the mtiIti-proees joint. i.e. the root run welded by TIG (141) wIthout backing. sutequent runs or 1ayei welded by metal-arc welding with covered electrode (111) withIn the limits of the range of approval for eacli welding process
b) sniccesñi1 completion of s’parare relevant approval Le one for TIG (141) without backing for the root run and a separate t for the fAll by metal-arc welding with covered electrode (111) with backing or welded from both sides with or without goung.
6.3 JoLnt typeR
Depending on the test piece, the range of welds for wiuich tne welder is approved is shown in table 3: the following criteria are applicab1e
a) approval for butt welds in pipes Includes butt welds in pLates;
b) approval for butt welds in plaLei in all relevuit positions covers butt welds on pipes having an nnt.cide diameter 500 mm, except item c) also applit

d) welding from one side without backing approves welds from one side with backing arid welds from both sides with and without gouging;
e) welding in plates or pipes with backing approves welds made from both sides, but not for welds without backing;
1) butt welds approve fillet welds for similar welding condiuolLs
g) Ln cases where the producUon work Ls predominantly filet welding, it is recommended that the welder should be approved also by an appropnare fillet welding te’. i.e. on plate, pipe or branch connection (see EN 2883);
