The life cycle inventory (LCD) of steel products is an important component in the support of life cycleassessments for a wide range of products and applications that contain steel or where steel is used to support the manufacture, production or delivery of products.
BS ISO 20915:2018 describes the methodology for the calculation of the steel life cycle inventories that canbe applied to a wide range of steel products, and represents the main process routes for global steel production. This includes the extraction of raw materials from the earth through to the productionof steel products at the factory gate.
Life cycle assessment can be used to quantify the potential benefits of recycling to conform to the guidance set out in ISO 14040: 2006 and ISO 14044: 2006.
BS ISO 20915:2018 specifies guidelines and requirements for conducting life cycle inventory (LCI) studies of steel products reflecting steel’s capacity for closed-loop recycling.
