1 Scope
1.1 These requirements cover electric-battery-powered cleaning machines such as buffers, scrubbers.
and polishers for industrial use.
1.2 Electric-battery-powered cleaning machines are intended to be operated, maintained, and used inaccordance with the truck type designations in the Standard for Powered industrial Trucks lncluding TypeDesignations, Areas of Use, Conversions, Maintenance, and Operations, NFPA 505.
1.3 Electric-battery-powered cleaning machines are identified as follows:
a) Type E – An electric cleaning machine for industrial use having minimum safeguards againstan inherent risk of fire and electric shock.
b) Type EE – An electric cleaning machine for industrial use with safeguards in addition tothose required for Type E electric cleaning machines.
c) Type ES – An electric cleaning machine for industrial use that has all of the safeguards of aType E cleaning machine and has additional safeguards to the electrical system to reduce therisk of emission of hazardous sparks and to limit surface temperatures.
1.4 These requirements cover Types E, EE, and ES cleaning machines powered by batteries supplying150 volts or less.
2 General
2.1 Components
21.1 Except as indicated in 2.1.2, a component of a product covered by this standard shall comply withthe requirements for that component. See Appendix A for a list of standards covering componentsgenerally used in the products covered by this standard.
2.1.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that
a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this standard, or
b) ls superseded by a requirement in this standard
2.1.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofuse.
2.1.4 Specific components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performancecapabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certaintemperatures not exceeding specified limits, and shall be used only under those specific conditions.
2.2 Units of measurement
2.2.1 Values stated without parentheses are the requirement. Values in parentheses are explanatory orapproximate information.
2.3 Undated references
2.3.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of this standard shallbe interpreted as referring to the latest edition of that code or standard.
2.4 Terminology
2.4.1 ln the following text, the term cleaning machine is used to mean an electric-battery-poweredcleaning machine. The type or types of cleaning machines to which a specific requirement applies isidentified by the heading under which the requirement is located and by specific references in the text tothe applicable requirements.

4 Samples
4.1 Compliance with the performance requirements for a cleaning machine shall be determined by testinga representative model.
