ANSI EIA-364-19A-2001 pdf download Torsional Insert Retention Test Procedure for Electrical Connectors
1 Introduction
1.1 Scope
1.1.1 This standard establishes test methods to determine the ability of the insert retaining system to withstand the torsional stresses likely to be encountered during normal usage.
1.2 Typical damage resulting £rom this test might be:
1.2.1 Cracked or broken inserts.
1.2.2 Inserts permanently displaced within connector shells.
2 Test resources
2.1 Equipment
2.1.1 Rigid mounting panel.
2.1.2 Test torque arm and suitable insert attachment fixture.
2.1.3 A suitable instrument (such as force scale, torque wrench, load scale or spring scale) for measuring the applied load to an accuracy of k five percent.
2.1.4 A suitable arrangement capable of applying the torque at a steady rate of 0.050 newton meter per second (0.5 pound inch per second).
2.1.5 A suitable instrument capable of measuring insert location relative to connector shell.
3 Test specimen
3.1 Preparation
3.1.1 The specimen shall be mounted in accordance with the referencing document.
3.1.2 Cable fitting and accessories shall not be mounted on the connector.
4 Test procedure
4.1 The connector shell shall be securely mounted to a rigid panel. Care should be taken to prevent distortion or stressing the shell in the mounting process.
4.2 The test torque arm shall be secured to the insert.
4.3 The specified torque shall be applied to the insert by the suitable test fixture. The torque shall be increased steadily at a rate of approximately 0.050 newton meter per second (0.5 pound inch per second) up to the specified value and held for one minute.
4.4 After the torque is released from the insert, the connector shall be examined for damage.
5 Details to be specified
The following details shall be specified in the referencing document:
5.1 Preparation of the specimen
5.2 Mounting of the specimen
5.3 Details of the test fixture
5.4 Torque to be applied and applicable direction
5.5 Requirements for final measurements
5.6 Any deviation from the standard test method
6 Test documentation
Documentation shall contain the details specified in clause 5, with any exceptions, and the following:
6.1 Title of test
6.2 Specimen description including fixturing and point of application
6.3 Test equipment used, and date of last and next calibration
6.4 Test and procedure
6.5 Values and observations
6.6 Name of operator and date of test
