2. General requirements
2.1 Materials
2.1.1 Composition. The units shall be made of suitable commercial grades of plastic resins and such other filling, coloring, reinforcing and finishing materials as will meet the performance requirements of this standard.
2.1.2 Finish. The finished surface of the unit shall be of a quality which meets all of the applicable requirements of this standard. See Appendix I for common finishes defined.
2.1.3 Supporting structure. The material of the supporting structure integral with the unit and its attachment shall be adequate to meet the performance requirement of this standard.
2.1.4 Alternate materials. When alternate materials are used as components within the plastic assembly, the materials shall conform to applicable material standards. They shall satisfy this standard regarding quality, strength, effectiveness, durability and safety. They shall also be repairable or replaceable within the plastic product.
2.2 Dimensional requirements
2.2.1 Dimensional tolerances. The finished trim dimensional tolerances for units shall be manufacturer’s stated “rough-in” dimensions. A tolerance of ± 5% shall apply.
2.2.2 Warpage. Fixtures shall not exceed the warpage tolerance specified in Section 5.7.
2.2.3 Trap seal. The depth of seal for integral trap water fed urinals shall be not less than 2 inches (50 mm).
2.2.4 Minimum trapway dimension. Urinals shall have a trapway which shall pass a minimum 3/4 inch (19 mm) diameter ball except where larger diameters are specified for certain fixture types in Section 6.2.
2.3 Selection of units for testing 2.3.1 Units to be inspected and tested shall be from finished goods inventory.
2.3.2 Flat samples. If satisfactory flat specimens for testing cannot be obtained from the unit being tested, flat samples of the approximate thickness shall be provided by the manufacturer and certified as having been made from the same materials and by the same process.
2.4 Care and maintenance instructions. Each unit shall be supplied with a removable copy of the manufacturer’s written care and maintenance instructions affixed to the unit in a conspicuous location. The instructions shall also state “To be removed only by the occupant.”
2.5 Identification. Each unit shall be permanently marked with the manufacturer’s name, trademark, or both; or in case of private brand sales, with the name, trademark or both, of the customer for whom the unit was originally made. The marking shall be visible after installation.
2.6 Labeling
2.6.1 Compliance with standard. Each fixture shall be marked at a location determined by the manufacturer with the designation ANSI Z124.9 to signify compliance with this standard. This mark need not be permanent, but shall be visible after installation.
2.6.2 Water consumption. Water fed urinals, both box and product, shall be marked as required in ASME/ANSI A112.19.2M. The fixture label shall be intended for removal by the occupant only, and so state on the label. Waterless urinals shall not be required to bear this label.
2.6.3 Model numbers. Urinals shall be marked with model numbers.
