ANSI Z83.26A-2008 pdf download CSA Standard for Gas-Fired Outdoor Infrared Patio Heaters
2.10 Allowable Heating Element And Load-bearing Flue Gas Baffle Temperatures The external surface of the heating element and loadbearing flue gas baffles shall not exceed the temperature indicated in Table I, Maximum Heating Element and Load-Bearing Flue Gas Baffle Temperatures, for the type of metal involved when tested under continuous operation under the following Method of Test.
This test shall be conducted at normal inlet test pressure and normal input rating.
With the heater in normal operation, the surface of the heating element shall be explored to determine approximately the regions of maximum temperatures. When these locations have been determined, the gas supply shall be shut off and the appliance allowed to cool to room temperature. At least five No. 24 AWG beadtype thermocouples shall then be firmly attached in good thermal contact at the hottest locations such as by silver solder to the surface of sheetmetal heating elements or peened into holes drilled into castiron elements.
The appliance shall then be placed in operation and temperature readings obtained by means of thermocouples individually connected to an indicating or recording device, and the temperatures developed recorded when equilibrium conditions are attained as indicated by temperature changes of not more than ± 5°F (± 3°C) between readings taken 1 5 minutes apart. When equilibrium conditions have been attained, the maximum temperatures recorded shall not exceed the limits specified in Table VIII, Maximum Heating Element and Load-Bearing Flue Gas Baffle Temperatures.
2.11 Wall, Floor And Ceiling Temperatures The maximum temperature on combustible surfaces adjacent to a heater during normal operation shall not be more than 1 1 7°F (47°C) in excess of room temperature. Surfaces between joists or flush with the heater shall not be more than 90°F (32°C) in excess of room temperature.
This test shall be conducted at normal inlet test pressure and normal input rating. The appliance shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions within an enclosure formed by two walls at 90 degrees to each other and a ceiling and floor. Tests shall be conducted at the clearances from these surfaces as specified by the manufacturer.
