2.2.5 Design to resist water penetration
Reinforced AAC structures shall be protected from water penetration by flashings, coatings and damp-proof barriers. NOTE: Means of satisfying the requirement for resistance to water penetration are set out in AS 5146.3 for applications covered by that Standard.
2.2.6 Design for fire resistance
Reinforced AAC members and structures shall comply with the following requirements for fire resistance: (a) The FRLs of Reinforced AAC members and structures shall be determined by test in accordance with AS 1530.4 or calculation in accordance with AS 5146.2 and shall be in excess of the required FRLs specified in the NCC for the particular application.
2.3.3 Design loads for lateral supporting members
The horizontal design load acting on a structural member or system providing lateral support to a Reinforced AAC member shall be the greater of the following: The sum of the simple static reactions to the applied horizontal forces and 2.5% of the vertical load that the Reinforced AAC member is designed to carry. 0.5 kPa acting on the tributary area. NOTE: Design loads specified in this Clause (2.3.3) do not require additional factoring.
2.3.4 Design loads for connections to lateral supports
The horizontal design load acting on a connection providing lateral support to a Reinforced AAC member shall be the value derived from Clause 2.3.3 increased by a factor of 1 .25.
2.5 CONNECTORS
The design of connectors, including bolts, nuts, screws, anchors, brackets, straps and the like, used to fix Reinforced AAC members to supporting elements in the structure, shall be based on the characteristic strengths of those items.
2.6 CAPACITY REDUCTION FACTORS
The characteristic bending capacity, shear capacity, axial load capacity and punching shear capacity of Reinforced AAC members and connectors shall be reduced by capacity reduction factors (0) in accordance with Table 2.6, as appropriate, for the purpose of design.
The values of capacity reduction factors (0) given in Table 2.6 shall be used where design actions, material properties, section properties, bending moments, shears and deflections have been determined accurately in accordance with this Section and AS 5146.2.
2.7 LATERAL SUPPORT
A structural member or system shall provide lateral support to a Reinforced AAC member. The supporting member shall resist the loads specified in Clause 2.3.3 without failure, and the maximum deflection at the point of support shall not exceed— span/250 for lateral support of walls, floors, roofs and the like without brittle finishes, and where deflection up to span/250 will not lead to damage of supported components or adverse effects; and
span/500 for lateral support of walls, floors, roofs and the like with brittle finishes, or where deflection in excess of span/500 could lead to damage of supported components, such as brittle partitions, or other adverse effects.AS 5146.1 pdf download.
