ASME PTC 12.2:1998 pdf download Performance Test Code on Steam Surface Condensers
11 OBJECT
This Code provides standard directions and rulesfor conducting and reporting performance tests ofwater-cooled,steam surface condensers, hereafterreferred to as condensers. The Code provides explicittest procedures to yield results of the highest levelof accuracy consistent with the best engineeringknowledge and practice currently available. Themain purpose of this Code is to provide rules forperforming condenser acceptance tests. The Codealso provides guidelines for the routine performanceevaluation of condensers.
The acceptance test can be used to determinecompliance with contractual obligations and can beincorporated into commercial agreements. The testshall be considered an ASME Code Test only if thetest procedures comply with those detailed recom-mendations in this Code and the pretest and posttest uncertainty analysis complies with Subsections1.3 and 5.4.
1.1.1 This Code provides rules for determining theperformance of a condenser with regard to the following:
(a) the absolute pressure maintained by the con-denser, or its projected design pressure with an uncer-tainty of +0.12 in. Hg;
(b) the extent of condensate subcooling with anuncertainty of 0.2°F;
(c) the amount of dissolved oxygen in the condensate, with an uncertainty of 1.0 ppm; and(d) the tubeside pressure drop, with an uncertaintyof 2%.
1 .1 .2 Test methods for determining the tube bundle performance factor and degree of tube fouling, ex- pressed as a cleanliness factor or fouling resistance, are described. 1.2 SCOPE The rules and instructions included in this Code are for the condenser proper. If the scope of the test includes any or all of the auxiliary apparatus associated with the condenser, it will be necessary to refer to other ASME Performance Test Codes.
1.2.1 The determination of special data or verifica- tion of guarantees which are outside the scope of this Code shall be made only with the written agreement of the parties to the test, especially regard- ing methods of measurement and computation, which shall be completely described in the test report.
1.3 UNCERTAINTY The uncertainty of the projected design point pressure from the acceptance test, using the recom- mended procedures and instrumentation, is expected to be less than 0.1 in. Hg. A post test uncertainty analysis is required. Due to the variety of methods and instruments, the test uncertainty for routine heat transfer performance tests must be estimated by a specific uncertainty analysis, described in Subsection 5.4, and the resulting uncertainty shall be less than 0.12 in. Hg in order to be considered a Code Test. The other test objective parameter uncertainties are more directly measured and defined in para. 1.1 .l.
