B.1 General
The definihon of this type of coating is given in 3,2.6.
B.2 Substrate materials
The base material for multilayer coated steel product is continuously hot-dip zinc-coated steel conforming to EN 10142 or EN 10147.
B.3 Coating materials
The common coating materials used for multilayer coated steel are:
oxidized bitumen to which additives and fillers have generally been added (asphalt compounds);
— embossed aluminium foil, purity 99.5 %, with or without decorative painting or plastic films; embossed electrolytic copper foil, purity 99,9 %, with or without plastic films.
B.4 Test methods and specifications
B.4.1 Test methods for bitumen
The following test methods should be used:
ASTM 036-70 Test methods of softening point of bitumen
ASTM D5-71 Test methods of penetration of bituminous material
B.4.2 Product specification
B.4.2.1 Minimum total coating thickness should be 1.5 mm (both sides).
8.4.2.2 The bituminous coating mass should be to the following specifications in table B.1
B.4.2.3 The bituminous coating should be oxidized bitumen to the following specification:
— Sotteningpoint: 105°C±10°C;
Penetration: 1.5 mm ± 0,5 mm.
B.4.2.4 The metallic foils should be to the following specification:
aluminium foil: 0,06 mm ± 0,005 mm:
-— prepainted aluminium foil: 0,08 mm ± 0,006 mm;
copper foil: 0.04 mm ± 0,002 mm.
B.5 Finished product
Performance requirements should be agreed between manufacturer and purchaser with reference to the following test methods
ISO 9227:1990, Corrosion tests in artificial atmospheres – Salt spray test.
EN ISO 6270:1980. Paints and varnishes• Determination of resistance to humidity (continuous condensation).
UNI 3949-1974, Frost test.
ISO 4625:1980. Binders for paints and varnishes – Determination of softening point – Ring and ball method.
B.6 Defects
