UL 1739:2004 pdf download Pilot-Operated Pressure- Control Valves for Fire- Protection Service
Scope
1.1 These requirements cover pilot-operated pressure-control valves intended to reduce the watelpressure in the supply piping for standpipe systems, or sprinkler systems, or both.
1.2 The valves covered by these requirements are intended for use in:
a)Standpipe systems installed in accordance with the Standard for lnstallation of Standpipeand Hose Systems, NFPA 14; or
b)Sprinkler systems installed in accordance with the Standard for Installation of SprinklerSystems,NFPA 13.
1.3 The valves covered by these requirements are intended to be inspected, tested, and maintained inaccordance with the Standard for the Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Water-Based FireProtection Systems,NFPA 25.
2 Components
2.1 Except as indicated in 2.2, a component of a product covered by this standard shall comply with therequirements for that component.
2.2 A component is not required to comply with a specific requirement that:
a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this standard, or
b) Is superseded by a requirement in this standard.
2.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions ofuse
2.4 Specific components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performance capabilitiesSuch components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as certain temperatures notexceeding specified lmits, and shall be used only under those specific conditions.
3 Units of Measurement
3.1 Values stated without parentheses are the requirement. Values in parentheses are explanatory orapproximate information.

5 Glossary
5.1 For the purpose of these requirements, the following definitions apply.
5.2 MAIN VALVE – The part of the valve assembly that controls the flow of water.
5.3 PILOT OPERATED PRESSURECONTROL VALVE – A valve intended to reduce the downstreamwater pressure to a specified value under both flowing (residual) and nonflowing (static) conditions.
5.4 PILOT VALVE – The part of the valve assembly that controls the operation of the main valve.
5.5 RATED INLET PRESSURE – The maximum inlet pressure at which the valve is intended to besubjected from the water supply system.
5.6 REFERENCED SETTING(S) – A location(s) for setting the vave as referenced in themanufacturer’s installation and operating instructions and for which performance information is provided
CONSTRUCTION
6 Sizes
6.1 As used in these requirements, valve sizes refer to the nominal diameter of the waterway through theend connections and to the nominal pipe trade size for which the end connections are intended. Thediameter of the waterway through the seat of a valve may be reduced to less than that of the waterwaythrough the end connections.
6.2 A pilot operated pressure control valve shall be constructed for use with standard pipe of trade size1 inch or larger.
