a) lnvolves a feature or characteristic not needed in the application of the component in theproduct covered by this standard, or
b) ls superseded by a requirement in this standard.
2.3.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its recognized rating established for the intendedconditions of use.
2.3.4 Specific components are recognized as being incomplete in construction features or restricted inperformance capabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such ascertain temperatures not exceeding specified limits, and shall be used only under those specific conditionsfor which they have been recognized.
CONSTRUCTION
3 General
3.1 General
3.1.1 A motor that is marked to indicate that it is provided with thermal protection shall comply with theapplicable requirements in the Standard for Overheating Protection for Motors, UL 2111.
3.1.2 A motor that is marked to indicate that it is provided with impedance protection shall comply withthe applicable requirements in the Standard for Overheating Protection for Motors, UL 2111.
3.2 Class I
3.2.1 A motor for use in Class l, Division 2 locations shall be of the open or totally enclosed type.
3.2.2 A motor for use in Class l, Division 2 locations shall be for use with alternating current (ac) only.
Exception: A motor is also able to be used with direct current (dc) when it is:
a) Brushless;
b) Purged and pressurized in accordance with the Standard for Purged and PressurizedEnclosures for Electrical Equipment (National Fire Codes, vol. 7), NFPA/ANSI 496,1998; or
c)In an explosion-proof enclosure in accordance with Standard for Electric Motors andGenerators for Use in Division 1 Hazardous (Classified) Locations, UL 674.
